SEOUL - KOREAN police are investigating allegations that the late actress Jang Ja Yeon was forced into having sex by her agency.
When the actress, who had a supporting role in the hit KBS drama Boys Over Flowers, was found dead at her home on March 7, the police at first regarded the case as a suicide driven by depression.
That view changed when her manager Yoo Jang Ho claimed to possess a six-page handwritten statement by her that revealed the story behind her death.
'There is a public enemy who is liable for her death,' he said.
'All who work in the entertainment business should know who that is.'
The rumours resulting from his ambiguous claim developed into a scandal when broadcaster KBS disclosed last Saturday three pages of a document allegedly written by Jang.
According to KBS, the actress testified in the document to being forced by her agency to have sex with notable social figures and listed their names.
The document also contained her social registration number and thumbprint, raising speculation that she was preparing for legal proceedings.
Her agency accused Mr Yoo of fabricating the documents, denied all charges and said it would file a suit against him for libel.
'We have been handed the original documents and are investigating whether the document was written by Jang herself and whether the contents are indeed true,' said a police official.
The police refused to reveal the names of those listed in the document as her sexual abusers. -- Korea Herald/ANN
