The reason this problem sparked is because of the ‘Best Actor Award’ where Kim Hyun Joong goes against Lee Jun Ki and ‘Hyunnies’ supposedly unite to vote for their favorite like crazy. Some Triple S reacted in a negative way to this saying “I don’t really like Hyun Joong in Boys Over Flowers but I’ll vote for him anyways because I’m a Triple S” ,etc.
So, I found this amazing long but very very awesome article Hyunmal from Soompi wrote and I think it really explains the whole problem and how we all should think about it. I really advise you, especially all the Triple S out there, to read it ^^
For those who just want a few main points, I highlighted what’s important and here are the key points:
1. Those who think of themselves as ‘Hyunnies’ simply are new to SS501. They found out about Kim Hyun Joong before they know about SS501 in shows such as We Got Married (referred as WGM) or Boys Over Flowers (BOF).
2. ‘Hyunnies’ is just a term. Much like we sometimes think of it as a term of endearment towards our favorite member: Jungmin = minnie, Kyu Jong = kyu-nie, Hyung Joon = joonies, Youngsaeng = saengies, etc.
3. ‘Hyunnies’ still do their part in voting polls such as “Best fan clubs” where they will vote along with others so “Triple S” could be the best. They just need time before they get used to SS501 and fully accredit themselves as “Triple S”.
Notice that this is a problem arising between international Triple S, not the one in Korea. The author of the article stated that she dicussed it with her friend who is a Korean Triple S and she was really disappointed in Triple S here bashing on each other in the ‘nice’ way. That’s why she wrote it.
